Bandung, September 26, 2025 - The management of Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung officially announced that one of their key young players, Ali Bagir Al Hadar, will be continuing his professional career in Japan, joining the Shinagawa City Basketball Club in Tokyo for the upcoming season.
The player wearing jersey number 13 first played for Satria Muda in the IBL All Indonesian event, making his debut against Amartha Hangtuah on November 5, 2022. Since then, he has become an important part of the team's journey, including winning the 2025 All Indonesian championship and being consecutively selected for the IBL All-Star squad in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
For Bagir, the journey with Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung has been a valuable experience and a crucial turning point for his career. "My time with Satria Muda means a lot to me. I learned so much at this club, not just about playing basketball on the court, but also important things off the court. I had many experiences that helped me grow as both a player and a person," he shared.
He added that ever since he decided to play basketball, his goal has been to achieve all the best possible accomplishments, one of which is to play on the international stage. "I didn't want to just stop in Indonesia; I also wanted to try playing abroad. So when the opportunity to play in Japan came up, I took it immediately. For me, this is part of a dream and a journey I've been chasing for a long time," added the 193 cm tall player.
Beyond his career, he expressed deep feelings for the Satria Muda family. "SM taught me how to be a better person, more mature, and full of respect. Honestly, it's very sad to leave this club; it was not an easy decision at all. But on the other hand, I'm also really excited to start a new chapter in Japan," said Bagir.
Coach's Support and Manager's Pride
Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung head coach, Youbel Sondakh, fully supports and respects Bagir's decision for next season. He acknowledged Bagir's important role in the Satria Muda lineup. "Bagir's contribution has consistently improved every year; especially last season, he had several crucial moments for the team," explained Coach Youbel. He added that technically, Bagir has strong assets to compete at the international level. "His talent is one of the best in Indonesia. He has the size, length, physicality, shooting ability, and most importantly, the willingness to keep developing. That is the greatest asset for him to thrive in Japan," he stated.
Nevertheless, Coach Youbel also reminded that the biggest challenge for Indonesian players abroad is adapting to a highly professional environment. "Bagir will certainly be required to be more disciplined there. But from our side, the sense of pride is immense. Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung played a role in sending a player abroad. Honestly, there is a feeling of loss, but we must immediately find a replacement to maintain the quality of the team," he noted.
From the management side, Christian Ronaldo Sitepu, Managing Director of Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung, affirmed that Bagir's success is the result of his personal hard work and the support from the club, which always strives to facilitate the best for every player's development.
"Success to Bagir; this is the result of his commitment and hard work. Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung is proud and fully supports Bagir's decision. The hope is that with this opportunity to compete in the B.League, Bagir will develop even further and improve his game and professionalism in the industry," he expressed.
A Dream for Indonesian Basketball
Ali Bagir's step onto the international stage is clear evidence that young Indonesian talents can compete at a higher level. This journey is also inseparable from an environment that provides space to grow, develop, and hone abilities until one is ready to face new challenges. Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung serves not just as a club, but as a home that always encourages its young players to dream bigger. Now, full support is given to Bagir to continue his career in Japan, with the belief that this step will become an inspiration for the next generation of Indonesian basketball.
Before leaving, Bagir shared a message for the Indonesian basketball community: "Everything we do is for the betterment of Indonesian basketball. We must continue to support Indonesian Basketball, and let's work together to make Indonesian sports better."
Bagir is scheduled to begin playing for Shinagawa City Basketball Club on Saturday, September 27, 2025. (SAM)
