Satria Muda Pertamina fell again in the continuation of this season's IBL. Visiting the Indomilk Arena, they had to admit the superiority of the Tangerang Hawks (THB) with a score of 87-84. SMP actually played very well in the first two quarters, solid defense and sharp accuracy made them lead by 19 points.
But unfortunately, the fairly wide point margin could not be maintained by Julian Chalias et al. The many turnovers and the difficulty of SMP breaking down the defense of THB finally made them slowly catch up. The impact at the end of the third quarter, a three-point shot from Enguio Lopez managed to bring them one point ahead. Until finally Antonius Joko's team managed to wrap up the victory and avenge their defeat last March.
"We played very well but unfortunately only in the first and second quarters, the rest of the time we lost momentum. On the other hand, they played very well in the last two quarters. They looked more eager to win, they were more willing to run, they also always won in the fight for the ball, fastbreak and it had an impact on points. So we really have to evaluate immediately because there are so many things that need to be fixed," said Youbel Sondakh at a press conference after the match.
Youbel also explained that he would continue to wait for their new player Warren Washington to develop further, because it was clear that he had high expectations for the former Miami Heat player.
"Yes, it's still the first game so it's clear that he still needs to adapt, especially to manage his fouls. Because after he got two fouls in the first quarter, it was quite disruptive to our player rotation. But I'm sure that day by day he will become more integrated with SM's playing pattern," he continued.
The issue of them losing momentum in the last two quarters was also acknowledged by SMP player Julian Chalias, according to him they were too relaxed when they were far ahead until they finally lost.
"Yes, we kind of slowed down and they were able to steal the win. Their attitude really looked like they wanted to win more than Satria Muda. So I think this is something we really have to fix as a team," he concluded.
