Satria Muda Pertamina moved quickly to find a new foreign player after they announced their separation from Jarred Shaw a few days ago. The Satria Muda coaching staff, which also includes the assistant figure of the Spanish national basketball team Luis Guil, finally agreed to bring in a player with the center position, a position that has been very crucial for the Satria Muda game machine so far.
On that basis, SM Pertamina finally chose Artem Pustovyi, a figure who has a lot of experience and is also one of the mainstays of the Ukrainian national basketball team.
Satria Muda head coach Youbel Sondakh explained that the main point of choosing Artem was his curriculum vitae or CV which was very impressive, both in terms of statistics and achievements.
"Actually, there were several CVs that came to my desk, but Artem is the best. He has played in the top European league, and has also played for Barcelona, ​​which we know is not just any basketball team. Well, from there I saw his video, I studied how he played in a team and finally I and the other coaching staff agreed that he was the right person for us right now,' he said.
When asked why they didn't look for players from the United States like SM Pertamina's rules so far, Youbel said that they wanted to try something new this year considering that the league regulations had also undergone quite significant changes, especially in the regulations regarding foreign players.
"Indeed, for us to win this year, I think we need to make different decisions, including trying to bring in players from countries outside our usual ones. Basically, this year we can't be ordinary because the league is also getting tighter, the competition between teams is also getting more competitive. So, there has to be a different feel from Satria Muda now," he explained.
Artem himself, when met after his first training with SM Pertamina in Sunter on Thursday morning, said that he had to adapt to the team as soon as possible. That's because he wants to be able to appear in two matches this week at the Pertamina Arena Simprug.
"First of all, it's certainly very exciting to be able to join a team that has a tradition of winning trophies like Satria Muda. But it seems that right now we have to work quite hard because I know the team's position is not so good in the temporary league standings. But I'm happy because in the last few weeks we have returned to winning ways and hopefully my arrival can help SM Pertamina achieve their targets this season. I will certainly try my best for that," concluded the player who has won basketball leagues in Ukraine and Spain.
Satria Muda Pertamina itself will return to action on June 8 and 9 to face Pacific Caesar Surabaya and Tangerang Hawks. And of course we hope to see the appearance of this 218 cm man in the arena soon, so welcome and work Artem Pustovyi!
