Satria Muda Pertamina (SMP) is increasingly serious in developing new talents in the world of basketball in Indonesia. This is clearly recorded from the activities this afternoon carried out by Satria Muda Academy (SM Academy) when inaugurating a new place to practice at Pertamina Arena Simprug, South Jakarta.
SM Academy can be followed by the young generation from the ages of 7-13 on February 10. Pertamina Arena Simprug, South Jakarta is the second place after Britama Arena, North Jakarta.
As Managing Director of SM Pertamina, Cristian Ronaldo Sitepu explained that the location was chosen at Pertamina Arena because the place has many memories from last season and is also a second home for Satria Muda.
"This is a continuation of the cooperation program for Pertamina's support to SMP. So we will not only use this arena for SM Academy training or matches but also work together to develop the Pertamina University basketball UKM. Also in the future there will be scholarships for junior SM here," said the man who is familiarly called Dodo.
Dodo explained, all SM Academy training programs at Pertamina Arena are the same as those implemented at Britama Arena, Kelapa Gading. Later, the big name, Dwi Prasetiyono will guide the young generation of basketball lovers.
All SM Academy members who have achievements will have a great opportunity to join SMP in the future.
"Of course (getting the opportunity to become SMP players). Because that is the main goal of coaching at SM Academy," said Dodo.
"Obviously we hope that there will be new seeds growing at SM Academy who will later become figures who can wear SMP jerseys. One of them is Sandy Ibrahim Aziz. A player who we know is great and helped SMP become champions in the National basketball scene. So I hope that our program can be accepted and useful in the development of children around South and West Jakarta," he continued.
As one of the figures who got a great opportunity to join SMP, Sandy admitted that he was proud to be able to grow with SMP until now.
"This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in basketball under the auspices of experienced coaches," said Sandy.
Sandy said that discipline is the key to someone's success in achieving their dreams.
"But of course it must also be accompanied by hard training, work ethic and attitude. You also have to believe and enjoy every process both on the field and off the field. If all of these factors have been done and lived, I believe that many new talents will emerge at SM Academy," said Sandy.
Sandy has high hopes that with the expansion of SM Academy locations, SMP can easily find professional players in the future.
"That way, of course, more individuals will emerge and have diverse talents from the younger generation. Of course, this will be a very important contribution not only for SMP but also for the future of the Indonesian National Basketball Team so that they will have good achievements in the future," concluded the silver medalist at the 2019 Philippine Sea Games.
