Satria Muda Pertamina (SMP) management moved quickly to patch up the replacement of Wendell Lewis. The reason SMP moved quickly was because the center position is an important pillar in every game scheme of the team from Kelapa Gading. After looking at various options, the choice finally fell on Warren Washington, a player from California, United States.
"The main reason is because I want to pursue a player who is aggressive in defense, because as we know, defense is one of our big evaluations right now. Also because I think defense will be crucial in every match this season and I see Warren has that ability," he said.
Warren Washington himself is a potential center player who is still in his golden age and was once a champion in the 2024 NBA Summer League with the Miami Heat after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies.
Asked about whether it would be an obstacle in adapting to Satria Muda considering that this Texas Tech graduate had never competed in Asia, Youbel answered that it would be an interesting challenge for him and the coaching staff at SMP.
"Actually, I still believe that he is a professional player, so I think he knows that adapting to every country he plays in is part of his job. In addition, I am also sure that he still wants to prove his best ability to compete with players in this league. The most worrying thing is the weather, but hopefully that can be resolved as he trains and competes here more often," he continued.
"Well, basically, I hope that as soon as possible he can integrate into the SM game system and of course with all the players here, because as we know, there is not much time because next week we will be competing again. But I am sure he can," he concluded.
Warren Washington himself will wear the number 22 jersey at SMP and of course will soon make his debut when he visits Tangerang Hawks on May 7. (FR)
